THE OG TRICKSTER

Koyotes Fancy’s Loki NTD ITD ATD ETD NS RATI RATN IBAR IBRH (Loki) was born August 5, 2018 in a litter of six. He is a CKC registered Shiba Inu. He earned his Expert Trick Dog title in Fall 2022 and his Novice Sprinter title in Summer 2024. He is our Barn Hunt superstar and picked up his Instinct title in May 2025 and Novice title in June 2025. He also made his NASDA (Urban Locate) and RATS! Canada debut in Summer 2025.

From the moment we met him at five weeks old, Loki was off doing his own thing away from his littermates. His independent spirit prevails today and he is the embodiment of several classic Shiba traits: strong-willed, confident, intelligent, and spirited.

Loki is an excellent adventure dog and loves to hit the trails in the nearby mountains. He has been canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding but prefers to splash around in water rather than actually swim.

Winter is his favourite season and you’ll rarely see him happier than after a fresh snow fall.

Loki LOVES people. He is our most social pup and will express his adoration with kisses (licking is his love language). When it comes to others of his species, he is dog selective.

Loki suffers from significant allergies including seasonal and food (chicken) allergies.

In Fall 2024, Loki was elected as the first Dog Mayor of Calgary’s Culture & Entertainment District. He co-marshalled the 2025 POW! Parade of Wonders alongside Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

Barrett’s Naoki Raven CA NS S AS SX NTD ITD ATD ETD SDIN SDN SDO RATI CW-SP CW-SD CW-ScR1 (Raven) was born October 15, 2020 in a litter of five. She is a CKC registered Shiba Inu. She earned her Expert Trick Dog title in Fall 2022.

The first thing people notice about Raven is her colouring. We’re often asked if she is a baby husky (and she’s vocal enough to pass for one!) Pinto Shibas are the result of uncommon spotting genes and are very rarely produced by reputable breeders so everyone was pretty shocked when she arrived.

We were smitten with our “Rey of sunshine” from the start. She is a perfect foil to Loki: sweet where he is sassy, easy-going where he is stubborn, and affectionate where he is aloof. They are the best of friends. Raven prefers a life of luxury. She’d rather get cuddles on the couch or sunbathe than go for a hike and reliably gets cranky at the 6km mark. She detests water and any kind of inclement weather.

Raven possesses an unusually good sense of recall for a Shiba Inu. Her favourite activity in the entire world is chasing a lure and we’re so excited that she’s begun competing in Chase Ability and Sprinters events. She earned her Chase Ability title in June 2023, her Novice Sprinter and Sprinter title in July 2023, and her Advanced Sprinter title in July 2024. She earned her Sprinters Excellent in May 2025. Her unofficial competition name is the “Spicy McChicken”.

As of 2024, Raven has also begun competing in Scent Detection. She earned her Scent Detection Instinct title in January 2024 and her Scent Detection Novice title in April 2025. She’s also earned several C-WAGS titles. We are actively competing in CKC and C-WAGS. Raven also picked up her Instinct title in Barn Hunt in May 2025.

Raven has a suspected dairy allergy.

THE RESCUE TRICKSTER

Ivy came home in November 2022. An Embark DNA test confirmed that she is 100% Shiba Inu and estimates her birthdate as November 2, 2020, making her almost exactly the same age as Raven.

We adopted Ivy from a local rescue shelter. What we know of her history indicates that she is a victim of backyard breeding and a hoarding situation. She arrived severely under-socialized, missing teeth on one side of her mouth, and with scars on the back of her head (probably inflicted by other dogs).

Ivy is still learning to trust humans and the world in general but is making great strides. Underneath her skittish exterior, she is a goofy, mischievous, playful girl who loves to be with her packmates and frolic outside. She loves balls, paddle boarding, the lure pole, and going for walks. We could not have asked for a better fit as a third addition to our pack. She is incredibly docile, gentle, and mild-mannered.

Ivy started nose work in 2025 and it has been incredible to witness the impact this has had on her confidence.

She is our only pup who howls and will do this to express her excitement!

THE HUMANS

Courtney fell in love with Shiba Inu while teaching abroad in Japan. She spent the next several years researching the breed and preparing to have one of her own. Brent knew he wanted a dog but his only criteria was that it be “wolfy”. And so when they were ready, they brought their firstborn fur child–Loki–home and quickly became hooked.

When they’re not teaching the dogs new tricks, taking them to their extracurricular activities, or driving out to the mountains for a hike, C&B work in the public services sector. Both have a degree in Psychology (Brent also has a second degree in Forensic Science). Brent enjoys playing video games in his spare time while Courtney loves reading and travel. C&B were both born and raised in Alberta. Today, they call Calgary home.

Courtney is certified in pet first aid and is the handler recognized on Loki and Raven’s trick dog titles. She is very involved in the local dog community and as of Summer 2024, has helped found the non-profit Shiba Inu Society of Alberta (SISA).
